Earthworms wriggle their way into Dissection Connection

Mr Vivi looks into earthworms at Dissection Connection

Mr Vivi is having such a marvellous time with his earthworm research. His degree is in natural resource management, you know, so this is his native habitat.

An earthworm dissection has been included in a Yr 7 science textbook this year and it’s thrown everyone up here into a bit of a spin.  We’ve had several requests to supply them , so he’s bought himself some earthworms and he’s feeding them up so they will be nice and fat.  He’s really enjoying it, actually!  He talks to them when he feeds them 🙂

He has also been testing a few methods of preservation that don’t use formalin and I think he’s come up with a good method.

He’s shown me what he finds when he dissects them and it’s really interesting.  Much more interesting than I thought it would be.  He dissected earthworms at Uni so he knows what to look for.

If you’re after earthworms for the classroom then drop me a line and I’ll have you sorted out in no time.

Male Reproductive System Workshop in North Lakes 21 July 2016

The Lakes College have invited us to deliver a workshop on the male reproductive system on 21 July 2016.  That’s Week 2 Term 3 and I know it seems like a long time away but it will be here before you know it.  You know how quickly Term 3 goes.

This workshop is a companion workshop to the female reproductive system one we did there a while ago.  This workshop will include specimens of bovine penis, porcine testis and live semen.

Mr Vivi will be running this one so you will have him all to yourself. Start a list of really hard questions for him now 🙂

You can sign up via the online shop or send a purchase order by email. Just make sure we have it in time to defrost your bits of bob for you.

He’s looking forward to seeing you there.

Funny Bone: why if we didn’t laugh, we’d cry (or, where are my hearts??)

So, just when we thought we’d ferreted out all the ways that supply could possibly be interrupted we get thrown another doozy this week.  Mr Vivi duly arrived early to work this morning and threw open the cold room door expecting boxes and boxes of lamb hearts to be waiting for him in there.

What he actually found in there was…… nothing.

So, on the phone to the supplier it was.

It turns out that the wild weather off Melbourne last week that led to a bit of a catastrophe with the Spirit of Tasmania breaking its moorings and smashing up the dock also led to a bit of a catastrophe in the world of The Meat Men.

No ships between Melbourne and Tasmania mean no Tasmanian lamb to the mainland either … or their hearts.  So here we sit, Australia Day and the first day of school almost upon us and we are lamb-less.  It’s un-Australian! #funnynotfunny

And that, Vivsters, is why if we didn’t laugh we’d cry.
